About Me

Who am I?

Hi, I'm Alessandro Mangone, a Data Engineer from Italy.

What do I do?

My aim at work is to support data science teams in the process of answering business questions. This usually means implementing a data product consisting of a visualization layer, that business people can access via web/mobile applications and interactively explore data for getting insights, and a processing layer that collects and processes data.

Whenever possible, I prefer using agile methodologies because they are quite effective in keeping the Business engaged and in improving project planning, thanks to regular meetings with the stakeholders and incremental addition of product improvements or new features based on their feedback.

I am also an advocate of techniques that improve software quality and reliability, such as Test Driven Development and Pair Programming. I also prefer using Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery pipelines while developing.

The main languages I use are Python, Java, Scala and TypeScript.

I am specialized in Big Data technologies (Spark, Kafka, Airflow), but I also enjoy using DevOps technologies, mostly Terraform, or creating nice data visualizations with libraries like echarts. My side projects, included this blog, are deployed on AWS, which I use at work as well.
